The key points

  • Accounts are optional; no real names required; no sale/rent/trade of data

  • Logs are for security/abuse, plus 90-day measurement of visits from outside links.
  • Anonymous page-view and visit-length counts; no IP or account attached; details deleted after 7 days

porker.vote · Effective September 28, 2026 · Last updated October 19, 2026

porker.vote (“the Site,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent civic-information and public-opinion website. We designed this Site so that we do not need to know who you are.

1. Our core privacy promises

  • You can use the Site without an account. An account is optional and never requires your real name.
  • We do not try to identify who you are in real life, and we never publish anything about an individual account.
  • We do not sell, rent, trade, or license user data — individual or otherwise — to anyone.
  • We do not build profiles of you for advertising.
  • We use data only in aggregated, de-identified form (for example: “X% of responses selected option A”).
  • We do not sell personal information under the CCPA/CPRA or similar U.S. state laws.

2. What we collect — and what we do not

We do not collect names, postal addresses, phone numbers, government IDs, payment card data, precise geolocation, biometric identifiers, or browsing histories tied to an identified person.

Information that may be processed automatically:

  • Standard server logs (time, request path, user-agent, referring URL, IP address) for security, abuse prevention, and diagnostics. Not used to profile you, apart from the 90-day measurement of visits from outside links described below.
  • Marketing measurement: when you arrive from an outside link (such as a post on X), we record the time, the page you landed on, the referring site, the link’s tag, your IP address, your browser type and an approximate location estimated from the IP address (using DB-IP.com). We use this only to see which outreach brings visitors, and we delete it after 90 days.
  • First-visit source: the first time you arrive, we set a first-party cookie (porker_ft) that remembers only where you came from (the link’s tag or the referring site’s name, the kind of page you landed on, and the date). It holds no ID and expires after 14 days. If you register, we save that source with your account so we can see which outreach leads to sign-ups; it is used only in aggregate counts and never shown for an individual.
  • Latest source (session cookie): while your browser stays open we also keep a session cookie (porker_lt) that holds only the latest source tag, referring site name and kind of page you landed on, with no identifier. It disappears when you close the browser. If you register, we save that latest source next to the first one on your account, for the same aggregate counts.
  • Share buttons: when you tap a Share button (X, Text, Email, Copy link or your phone’s share sheet), we add a short tag such as ?src=share-x to the link and add 1 to an anonymous daily count of which button was tapped on which type of page; no name, account, IP address, cookie or device detail is saved with that count.
  • Anonymous page counts: We count anonymous page views and visit length to improve the site; no IP or account is attached and details are deleted after 7 days.
  • First-party technical cookies or local storage strictly necessary for the Site to function (e.g., a “already voted” token). Not advertising cookies.
  • Voluntary text you type into a poll, comment, or contact form. Do not put identifying information in free-text fields.
  • Aggregated counts of votes, clicks, and page views.

If you email us, we use that address only to reply. It is not added to a marketing list.

2a. If you create an account

If you choose to register, we store your email address (to confirm your account and sign you in), plus anything you choose to save: your location or district, topics, demographic answers, ratings, watchlists and display settings. We use this only to personalize what you see on the Site. It is never sold, rented, shared with campaigns or advertisers, or used for marketing. Your ratings and answers appear publicly only as part of aggregate totals. If you cancel your account, we delete this information, apart from brief security-log retention.

We also store a username and your password in scrambled (hashed) form. We never see or keep your actual password. When you sign in, we record a scrambled version of your IP address and an approximate location (country and region), used only to spot suspicious logins. Account confirmation emails are sent through our email delivery provider, which keeps a record of messages it sends.

3. How we use information

  • Operate, secure, and improve the Site.
  • Publish aggregated, non-identifying results.
  • Detect fraud, spam, ballot stuffing, bots, and attacks.
  • Comply with a valid legal obligation.

We do not use individual records for advertising, credit, employment, housing, or insurance decisions.

4. Sharing

We do not sell data. Limited sharing only with hosting/security providers under contract, when required by law, or if the Site itself is transferred under equivalent protections. We do not share individual-level data with campaigns, PACs, data brokers, advertisers, or social platforms.

5. Cookies, analytics, and tracking

No third-party ad networks, remarketing pixels, or cross-site trackers that identify you. Any analytics tool is configured for aggregation. We count anonymous page views and visit length to improve the site; no IP or account is attached and details are deleted after 7 days. IP addresses are kept for security and, for visits from outside links, for 90-day marketing measurement (see section 2). Guest vote: if you vote once without an account, we set a first-party cookie (porker_guest) and keep that one vote, a scrambled (hashed) copy of your IP address and the date for up to 7 days, to stop repeat voting. It is not shown in public totals unless you register; then it becomes your normal vote and the guest record is deleted. Unclaimed guest votes and the cookie expire after 7 days. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person, not a bot, is voting. First-visit source: a first-party cookie (porker_ft) records only the source of your first visit (link tag or referring site, kind of page, date) for up to 14 days; it has no identifier. If you register it is saved with your account and used only in aggregate counts; cancelling your account deletes it.

6. United States privacy laws

We do not “sell” or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising and do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. Because we do not maintain identified consumer profiles, an access or deletion request will often result in a response that we have no identifiable record of you — unless you emailed us. If you have an account, you can view and change what you’ve saved on your Account page, and cancelling deletes it. For other requests, email support@porker.vote.

7. EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)

The Site is operated from the United States and directed at a U.S. civic audience. We do not target EU/UK residents, do not require registration, and do not seek to identify visitors.

If you visit from the EEA/UK/Switzerland, we do not intentionally collect personal data about you. Residual technical data in security logs is limited to operating and securing a public website. We do not profile you or make automated decisions with legal effects. Our primary GDPR posture is minimization: do not collect what you do not need.

Controller: operator of porker.vote, support@porker.vote. You may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and complaint to a supervisory authority. We may be unable to locate a record of you unless you supplied contact details yourself.

8. Children

Not directed to children under 13 (or 16 where a higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Retention and security

Aggregated results may be kept indefinitely because they identify no one. Web server logs are kept for about 14 days, and security and sign-in logs for up to 30 days. When you cancel an account, it is removed from the live site right away, and any copy in our backups is permanently erased within 30 days. Correspondence is kept only as needed to handle the inquiry. No transmission is 100% secure; we use measures appropriate to a small public website.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date will change. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
